Apply to Teach at Mount Tamalpais College
We invite passionate, skilled educators to join our volunteer faculty at Mount Tamalpais College (MTC). Teaching with us is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing high-quality instruction to incarcerated college students at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center.
We seek individuals who are deeply committed to educational equity and who bring strong teaching or tutoring experience. Credit course instructors must hold a graduate degree—preferably a PhD—in a relevant field. We especially encourage applications from people who reflect the cultural, racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, including those directly impacted by incarceration.
As a volunteer faculty member, you’ll be part of a rigorous academic environment that upholds the highest standards of teaching and student engagement. Thank you for your interest!

Course Catalog
Our courses are in-classroom and discussion-based, and offer transferable credits. Because we are limited by classroom space at San Quentin, we rotate course offerings.

Meet Our Students
The students we serve at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center are on a medium-security yard and are classified by California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as male—including men and trans women. The majority of our students are people of color.
Meet Our Faculty
Our volunteer faculty are drawn from some of the Bay Area's most prestigious colleges and universities and are placed as instructors and tutors at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center each term, three terms a year.
